COVID and the Deer Population

Articles by Dr. Erdman are for informational purposes, and are not to be taken as specific medical advice.

I came across an interesting bit of information the other day regarding animals contracting Covid. I saw they were testing animals in a zoo and getting positive results in some animals, which displayed no symptoms.

Then, someone sent me an article published by NPR, titled, “How Sars-Cov-2 in American deer could alter the course of the global pandemic.”

It states that scientists have evidence that Cov-2 spreads explosively in white-tailed deer and that the virus is already widespread in the deer population across the entire United States!

In September of 2020 a computer model suggested deer could easily be infected with the virus. To that end, researchers went to the field and started testing deer.

In the Northeast and Midwest, they found 40% of the deer had antibodies!

Penn State University found active infections in at least 30% of deer tested across Iowa in 2020. This year, 2021, during the human surge of cases in Iowa, they found 80% of deer tested were infected. They found the prevalence of virus in deer was 50 to 100 times the prevalence in Iowa residents in the same time frame.

During this time, the scientists also DNA gene sequenced the deer virus samples. They found the variants circulating in the deer matched the variants circulating in the human population.

The scientists at Penn State also said the deer have no outward signs of sickness.

During the DNA genomic sequencing, the article suggests they have multiple recordings of deer getting the virus directly from people. Yet the article still suggest that we don’t know if people can get it from deer. This makes no sense to me! If it can go from people to animals, why can’t it go from animals to people? It can and does.

Later in the article they refer to research in the Netherlands and Poland regrading mink farms. Farm workers passed the virus to minks, it mutated and created new variants. The new variants then spilled back into people. If this evidence exists, why does the article earlier question if it can happen?

Why does this information matter, you say? Well, this is what is called an animal reservoir. When an animal can host a human disease, and contribute to causing variants of the disease, we can never expect to eradicate said disease!

This is why the push to jab every person on Gods green earth is a total waste of effort. Are you going to jab every animal too? And that assumes these jabs work in the first place!

This virus is here to stay, in all its mutated forms. We need to get back to normal life, treat people properly when they are sick and let the healthy alone. There is nothing else we can do to “end” this disease. It just can’t and won’t happen.
