Wuhan Virus?

Articles by Dr. Erdman are for informational purposes, and are not to be taken as specific medical advice.

Most of us are probably pretty tired of hearing about this Wuhan virus by now.  The scare tactics and misinformation is so bad, many people are scared out of their minds! Don’t let that be you – learn some facts we now know that weren’t available initially.

When this virus first came out of China, the predictions called for 2.2 million deaths in the USA alone. The latest models now say 30-60,000 deaths in the USA.

The survival rate is currently at 98-99+% for this virus. Can it be dangerous, absolutely, but is it a death sentence…not by a long shot!

This “social distancing” and “shelter in place” is actually weakening your immune system. We need to have interaction with others in order to build our own immune systems. The only thing “distancing” actually does is slow down how fast the population comes into contact with the virus. In turn, that slow down helps the health system to not be overwhelmed. That’s it!  It does not keep people from ever getting it, nor does it save people from dying.

But let’s say you actually get it, have symptoms, and need treatment. What is out there to help?

First, many doctors are using the hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin. It actually does work in many cases, but there are side effects to be concerned about. Some are severe cramps, loss of vision, severe headache, and heart complications.

Secondly, the largest hospital system in New York State has just started using a unique, but trusty, regimen of intravenous vitamin C therapy. The reason it doesn’t get reported is because it isn’t a sexy now drug, even though it proves to be working better. This is the treatment I would insist on having if I needed help in a hospital setting.

Those are treatments found in hospitals for the worst cases. But what can you do at home? I would first start with preventive treatment that anyone can start right now.

The Orthomolecular Medicine News Service Editorial Review Board and the Japanese College of Intravenous Therapy both recommend the following:

1.       3000 mg vitamin C per day in divided doses
2.      400 mg magnesium
3.      20 mg zinc
4.      100 mcg selenium
5.      5000+  IU vitamin D3

A particular home therapy that is valid for any viral or bacterial lung infection per Dr. Thomas Levy, is “nebulized hydrogen peroxide therapy.” Simply put straight 3% H2O2 in a nebulizer and breath, multiple treatments per day is not a problem

So what would I do if I get the virus? At the start of any viral infection I’d start taking vitamin C (liposomal vitamin C as ascorbic acid is best) every hour until bowel tolerance is reached. A loose bowel is peak tolerance. Initially more is better, but when tolerance is achieved, take less amounts but more often or as often as tolerated. Less per time but  more often is better than large doses less frequently.

I would add vitamin B19t ( thiamine) as Dr. Saul suggests, at the rate of 50 to 100 mg per day, in divided doses, for the duration of the illness symptoms. Infection increases the need for vitamin B1.
Exercise is crucial to well-being, but when you’re sick, that’s a big ask. So, I’d take a nitric oxide supplement in the form of L-Arginine or citrulline. A near infrared sauna would also be an option. Nitric oxide inhibits viral replication.

And, of course, I would use nebulized hydrogen peroxide as a direct treatment to the lungs.
As you can see, this disease is not a death sentence, and has many preventive and post infective treatments to do at your convenience. A healthy immune system is the best bet to remain healthy, and try to beat any infection we may come across.
