Thyroid part 2 of 5

Articles by Dr. Erdman are for informational purposes, and are not to be taken as specific medical advice.

In the last article, we looked at what functions the thyroid plays in our health and general information on it. In this week’s edition we will take an in depth look at factors that disrupt thyroid function.

There are 7 factors we will discuss in this article. These are heavy metals, medications, gluten, soy, fluoride, bromines and adrenal function/stress.

Heavy metals collecting in our bodies interfere with production of thyroid hormones. Lead, cadmium, mercury and other heavy metals come from many sources. Lead comes from some old paint and industrial wastes. Mercury is found in many vaccinations and contaminated water.

Medications such as steroids, barbiturates, cholesterol-lowering drugs and beta blockers can disrupt thyroid function.

Thyroid Part 1 of 5

Articles by Dr. Erdman are for informational purposes, and are not to be taken as specific medical advice.

I’m going to start a series of articles relating to the thyroid. I’ve always found endocrinology to be a difficult subject for me to comprehend even at a basic level. It takes a special doctor to be able to learn and remember all the functions of the body’s endocrine system. I am not that guy, but we can still take a closer look at the thyroid and learn some basic facts and how to apply them.

The thyroid is one of the largest endocrine glands in the body and has some impact on every cell in your body. The greatest job of the thyroid is regulating your metabolism and weight by controlling the fat burning process. The thyroid hormones are also necessary for growth and development in children and nearly every physiological process of the body. Too much or too little of these hormones can mean trouble for your overall health and well-being.

Frozen should and the Flu Vaccine

Articles by Dr. Erdman are for informational purposes, and are not to be taken as specific medical advice.

Since we are bombarded everyday with false information from the medical monopoly regarding the flu vaccines, I feel it is my duty to expose you to the data no one else will print.

What is the one side effect that every doctor will admit can occur when any vaccine is administered? My first thought was that they will never admit to anything adverse with vaccines, but then this one did come to mind. It’s actually an easy one, soreness at the sight of the injection, right?

For most people it’s as simple as being sore where a needle jabbed you, and it’s gone in a matter of days. But there can be another effect, lasting much longer and possibly leading to a frozen shoulder.

The condition is called (wait for it…) shoulder injury related to vaccine administration, or SIRVA. It has been known to occur for a long time, but the first cases were published in 2007, following influenza and pneumococcal injections.

Tamiflu

Articles by Dr. Erdman are for informational purposes, and are not to be taken as specific medical advice.

For those of you who have been reading these articles for a while, I apologize for yet another one on this subject. I just can’t help myself when the newest research, yet again, bears out what health observers have long noted. You guessed it, the ever evil flu season is upon us. The flu can be deadly, but if you’re generally healthy, it will be of no consequence other than a few miserable achy days.

Of course flu shots are the mainstay of prevention for traditional medicine. I’ve shown you in many articles how worthless they are.

The next line of defense put forward by medicine is the antiviral medications such as Tamiflu. Governments, including the USA to the tune of $1.3 billion dollars’ worth, stockpile these drugs just in case a severe outbreak occurs. If these drugs actually worked the theory would be sound. Unfortunately, as with many allopathic cures, you have been lied to. Not only are those antivirals not effective, they also have serious side effects.

E-Cigarettes

Articles by Dr. Erdman are for informational purposes, and are not to be taken as specific medical advice.

We’ve all been exposed to the e-cigarette wave sweeping the country over the last half decade. E-cigs now have a larger population using them than smokeless tobacco.

Smokeless tobacco has been around for hundreds of years, yet only about 3.5% of Americans use it. E-cigs have been around about 10 years and already about 10% of US adults and 13% of high school students use it. A National Institute of Drug Abuse survey found that 9% of 8th graders, 16% of 10th graders and 17% of seniors had used e-cigs in the last month.

Trans Fats

Articles by Dr. Erdman are for informational purposes, and are not to be taken as specific medical advice.

Over the last several years of writing these articles, I’ve hit the topic of saturated fats, cholesterol and your heart health quite a few times. The school of thought that saturated fats are good for you continues to be proven correct. Even more recent research has come in on the side of the healthiness of saturated fats. The recent research also points to the real villain that fries (no pun intended) your heart, that being trans fats.

Back in February, the US government’s Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee surprisingly eliminated warnings about dietary cholesterol and reversed their long standing nutrition policy by concluding that dietary fats have no ill effects on the heart.

For a long time healthy fats and cholesterol have been taking the blame for heart disease, but over 70 studies no show it to be a false flag.

Ice or Heat?

Articles by Dr. Erdman are for informational purposes, and are not to be taken as specific medical advice.

Do I use heat or ice, Doc? This seems to be the most commonly asked question in my office. People find it difficult to remember when to use which one.

Applying ice or heat can provide relief from injuries, aches and pains, but they cannot be used interchangeably. In a general sense, ice works best for sudden injury, while heat is best to soothe longer term aches and pains.

Good Sleep

Articles by Dr. Erdman are for informational purposes, and are not to be taken as specific medical advice.

When is the last time you got a full eight hours of sleep? Have you been conditioned to think getting a full night’s sleep is not that necessary? When I asked one patient about his sleep habits he said, “I’ll sleep when I’m dead!” Prophetically, a lack of sleep will get you there more quickly.

It is estimated that 40% of Americans do not get proper sleep time. Many get less than five hours per night. Even the CDC has stated that a lack of sleep is a public health epidemic. Improper sleep habits are linked to a wide variety of health problems. Tired drivers are as dangerous as drunk drivers. By lacking sleep, you are risking far more than accidents, you are affecting your entire health picture.

Mandatory Vaccine

Articles by Dr. Erdman are for informational purposes, and are not to be taken as specific medical advice.

Ever since the measles outbreak originating at Disneyland started, I’ve been itching to write an article on the hypocrisy of those calling for mandatory vaccinations. The pharmaceutical companies played a first class propaganda ploy to ensure profits at the expense of your health.

They say those of us who don’t vaccinate pose a serious danger to the rest of society. Apparently we are all pharmaceutically deficient and need to be forced to get their vaccines or be punished and segregated.

Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI)

Articles by Dr. Erdman are for informational purposes, and are not to be taken as specific medical advice.

In today’s world of high stress and fast paced lifestyles, many people can feel overwhelmed. Depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues are skyrocketing. Many people turn to their medical doctor for help.

According to the CDC, one in twelve Americans over the age of 12 report some form of depression, and a full 11% of the population over age 12 is on some type of antidepressant medication. In the Geisinger Health System, the number one drug class prescribed by their doctors is for depression/anxiety.

Unfortunately, the latest research overwhelmingly shows these drugs do not work as advertised. They may actually exacerbate the cause of some of the mental disorders.

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS)

Articles by Dr. Erdman are for informational purposes, and are not to be taken as specific medical advice.

Now that summer is finally with us to stay, many people are motivated to get into exercising again. That is great!

One problem many people from new exercisers to hardcore trainers run into is post exercise soreness. There is a technical name for this pain in the muscles that occurs 1-2 days after the workout; it is called Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness or DOMS.

DOMS is actually caused by the inflammation from small microscopic tearing of muscle fibers and surrounding soft tissues. The damaged muscles release chemical irritants that contact pain receptors and cause them to fire pain signals to the brain. Generally, the pain of DOMS will go away within just a few days without lasting effects. In the meantime, it will more than likely keep you from being as active as you’d like to be, or just hinder normal movements with pain.

Diet Soda

Articles by Dr. Erdman are for informational purposes, and are not to be taken as specific medical advice.

Pepsi has just announced that Diet Pepsi will be switching from aspartame to sucralose, as the artificial sweetener.

So why is Pepsi Co switching?  As many studies over the years have shown, aspartame is just hazardous to your health. It is carcinogenic in many ways, and people are rejecting its use.

Sucralose, or Splenda, isn’t really a better alternative at all. It has many of the same adverse effects as aspartame including, headaches, seizures, GI problems, heart palpitations, respiratory difficulties, and ironically, weight gain.

Magnesium

Articles by Dr. Erdman are for informational purposes, and are not to be taken as specific medical advice.

After hearing of another study reporting to have found that taking certain vitamins may actually be bad for you, I just have to ask if that is really a possibility. I don’t know the answer, but it sure doesn’t make me want to toss my nutritional support. Common sense would dictate that too much of even a good substance may be bad for you in abject excess. Hey, even water can kill you if you drink too much at once. Common sense also says that our food is lacking in many nutritional areas, even with the best of diets.

Let’s move on to this week’s topic of the vital mineral magnesium. Overlooking this mineral can lead to calcium imbalance, type 2 diabetes, vitamin D deficiency, lack of energy for your muscles and ill health. Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in your body. It exists in over 300 different body enzymes. Fifty percent of it is found in your bones. It aids in energy metabolism and protein synthesis. It is required for making glutathione, known as the master antioxidant. As high as 80% of Americans are deficient in magnesium.

Shaken Baby Syndrome, Part 3

Articles by Dr. Erdman are for informational purposes, and are not to be taken as specific medical advice.

In the last of the series of three articles on Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS), we will look at how vitamin D deficiency and vaccine aluminum adjuvants mimic SBS. Child abuse is a terrible crime, and should be punished to the fullest. But as scholars such as Dr. David Ayoub have found, thousands of cases of ‘child abuse’ are in fact misdiagnosed cases of rickets, caused by vitamin D deficiency.

Vitamin D deficiency in an infant looks different on an x-ray then it does in the classic presentation at an older age. On an x-ray, bones may appear to be broken, even to the trained radiologist ignorant of rickets presentation in infancy.

Shaken Baby Syndrome, Part 2

Articles by Dr. Erdman are for informational purposes, and are not to be taken as specific medical advice.

Is it Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS), or something else? They tell us the triad of brain swelling, retinal hemorrhage, and brain hemorrhage can only mean one thing, you hurt your baby. Child abuse is abhorrent, but so is being accused of killing or injuring your own child with abuse when you know you have not. The simple allegation can ruin a person’s life; so we better be sure when that accusation is leveled.

According to experts, the alleged scenario for SBS goes like this: A baby crying inconsolably triggers the action; the perpetrator shakes the baby from 5 to 20 seconds at a rate of 2 to 4 times per second. So at a minimum, you can do unfathomable damage to a baby’s brain in 5 seconds by shaking them up to twenty times. Is this good for a baby, obviously not, but can it do the alleged damage absent neurologic and neck injuries? It seems highly improbable that that action would kill a child, especially after the quote from the National Shaken Baby Coalition that less damage may occur if you drop them from three stories up! And real science seems to back up that conclusion.

Shaken Baby Syndrome, Part 1

Articles by Dr. Erdman are for informational purposes, and are not to be taken as specific medical advice.

At the beginning of February of this year, Mr. Mahmoud Ibrahim was on trial for attempted homicide. He allegedly shook his 4 month old son, Ali, so severely as to cause brain hemorrhage and retinal hemorrhage. He was jailed on 1 million dollars bail in October of 2013, where he had remained until being acquitted in February. This man spent 13 months in jail for a crime he was just acquitted of committing.

He was committed to jail because Dr. Bellino, who treated Ali that fateful day, said Mr. Ibrahim was a child abuser, based solely on his observations and findings. During the trial Dr. Bellino testified “that the brain injury suffered by Ali was due to abusive head trauma and likely caused by shaking within an hour of Ibrahim making a 911 call for help on October 28, 2013, when his son began struggling to breath.”

It sounds logical until you really take a hard look at the reality of Shaken Baby Syndrome or SBS. Are there people out there who abuse children? Sure there are, and they need punished to the fullest extent.

New Neuroimmunology, Part 3

Articles by Dr. Erdman are for informational purposes, and are not to be taken as specific medical advice.

For a third article in a row, I’m going to go back to the immunology and immunization debate.  We have gone into great detail on the subject of how your immune system responds with natural exposure to a disease versus a vaccination.

Now, we’ll look at the starting point of your immune response. The care of the mother and the initial care of the infant play a huge role in the health of the baby. We all know that don’t we? Significant new research is showing that we haven’t known the half of it!

Would you believe the latest studies show that when a woman is pregnant, her diet, environment and care of herself affect not only her child, but her grandchildren and even her great-grandchildren? That is mind blowing! The way this is possible is through something called the epigenome. The epigenetic response is how you respond to everything that happens to you, including your environment, diet, child abuse, vaccinations, clean water or pesticide laced vegetables. Your genome doesn’t change as we age, but your epigenome changes drastically as we are influenced by our environment. That good news is that you can do something about your mother’s bad habits.

New Neuroimmunology, Part 2

Articles by Dr. Erdman are for informational purposes, and are not to be taken as specific medical advice.

As we continue to look at the science of the immune system, we will see why immunizations are not a normal part of the process, and why they have no part in keeping you healthy.  Your body recognizes a shot for what it is, a poisonous invader, yet the response is completely different from a naturally acquired invasion of the same disease.

Did you know that 80% of your immune system is in your gut? All of the bacteria in your body are called the Bionome. You can control the 80% in your gut; the other 20% is beyond your control, for good or bad. As science learns more about our defense mechanisms, they are realizing that antibodies to disease are but a small part of our lines of defense. Unfortunately, antibody titers are all that conventional medicines approach to disease control cares about. A TH1 response occurs in reaction to naturally obtained infectious diseases.   A TH2 occurs with vaccines and with a few other areas of body responses, like toxin and allergy mediation.

New Neuroimmunology, Part 1

Articles by Dr. Erdman are for informational purposes, and are not to be taken as specific medical advice.

Since the recent outbreak of measles at Disney World, I have been getting a lot of questions about immunizations.   I attended a twelve hour continuing education seminar titled, “Neuroimmunology: Patterns of Influence,” by Dr. Stephen Marini, M.S., D.C., PhD. The next several articles come from this seminar.  They are going to concentrate on some challenges to the medical paradigm that are held so dear by most physicians, yet make so little sense when compared to verifiable, scientific truth. This is a very difficult subject to write about due to its complexity, but is vitally important to understand when learning about how to stay healthy naturally, and avoid poisoning your system with worthless vaccinations.

The conventional medical paradigm holds to some very wrong headed public health ideas, which completely drives their research agendas and public health policy. First off, medicine believes the immune system is independent and autonomous (works alone without help). Scientific research shows this to be completely false. Can thoughts of the mind affect your physical health? You bet.  Have you ever heard of the placebo effect? Does physical trauma affect the psyche or nervous systems? Sure. No one system stands alone, yet this is how medicine treats the immune system when it tries to fake it out with immunizations for contagious disease.

Chronic Pain, Parts 1 & 2

Articles by Dr. Erdman are for informational purposes, and are not to be taken as specific medical advice.

Coming into this New Year, many people are faced with the same old chronic pain of last year. It is estimated that some 100 million adults in the United States suffers from chronic pain. That is more people than diabetes, heart disease, and cancer combined.

There are many causes of chronic pain. Sometimes it is associated with a specific injury, event, or disease such as a back injury, infection, and arthritis. Other times, there is no clear medical cause, and the pain simply continues on for weeks to years. Low back pain, headaches, and nerve pains commonly fit into this category.
